STATEN ISLAND, NY — Every year the Italian Club of Staten Island Foundation hosts the annual Patsy Serra Sr. community spirit at the Award Dinner; Leadership and selflessness is an annual event that recognizes a specific member who has contributed not only to the organization but also to Staten Island.

Serra, who died in 2014, was one of the founders of the Italian club. He has been an active member for nearly six decades and is a staunch supporter of the club’s philanthropy.

The evening was hosted by LiGreci’s Staaten and honored Dr. John P. Piazza, a member of the club and a leader in chiropractic care.

The evening is also an opportunity to induct new members into the time honored organization.

The five new members signed by Carmine Manna to the Italian club are Richi Cacici; Rico D’Amelio; Joseph Tirone Vincent Bonomi and Al Lambert.

Patsy Serra Sr. Award Chairman and Club President Anthony Maniscalco said, “The annual award is given to a member who has made a significant contribution to our club this year in a friendly and generous spirit. Patsy sadly passed away in 2014. Patsy has been an active member of our club for nearly six decades and has supported our charities throughout that time. When Patsy passed away, her family created an award in her name to continue her legacy. One of my greatest honors is being chosen as the first recipient of this award. Other club members honored were the late Carlo Montalbano; Victor Popolano; James Mealady, Joseph Zichittella and Michael Anicito.”

Maniscalco continued: “After much discussion and negotiation among our committees, which included previous recipients; The following individual has contributed the most to our club in ‘various ways’ in the past year and we have unanimously decided to display all the characteristics that make us smile. Patsy’s face.”

Dr. Piazza noted, “Receiving the Patsy Serra Award is not only a personal honor, but a tribute to the perseverance and hard work of my grandparents and Italian immigrants who traveled to America with dreams of a better future. This recognition is based on the family values ​​that my parents instilled in me. It reaffirms the pride and loyalty and hard work to pass on to a son.”

JOHN P. PIAZZA A LITTLE ABOUT DR

Dr. Piazza is a graduate of Life Chiropractic College and the City University of New York.

His professional journey has been marked by numerous accolades and leadership roles. He has served as President of the New York Chiropractic Association’s District 5 and is an active member of the New York Chiropractic Council and the American Chiropractic Association. In 2014, he was appointed to the Staten Island Health & Wellness Advisory Council by former Borough President James Oddo.

Dr. Piazza is a frequent lecturer on sports injuries and a TV and print expert. His passion for education is evident through guest lectures at St. John’s University and presentations at numerous medical and chiropractic seminars.

His influence reached a new generation of athletes by founding the Sports Science Lab, which he co-founded with his wife Susan. It is the athlete’s individual movement, neurological Musculoskeletal capacity and aerobic capacity are assessed.

The lab also partners with Nike to research science-backed methods to help elite athletes perform at their peak and reduce injuries. Athletes from around the world visit the lab for its innovative approach.

Dr. Piazza is the St. Paul School of Nursing and the Snug Harbor Cultural Center and Botanical Garden; Wagner College DaVinci Society; He has served on several boards, including the Staten Island Chamber of Commerce and the Business Guild 3.

His proudest accomplishment is his family: his wife Susan of 25 years and his 15-year-old son Maximilian, an actor with numerous professional credits.

A little about the Italian Club of the STATEN ISLAND FOUNDATION

Founded in 1950 by eight prominent Italian-Americans, it also raises funds for philanthropic, philanthropic, and educational organizations “to promote better understanding and awareness of Italian culture among Italian-Americans who are leaders in business and professional fields.”

The club will celebrate its 75th anniversary in 2025.

Over the years, the group has committed to community involvement on various levels, including establishing a student scholarship program and hosting several food drives.

From the original eight, the membership has now grown to over 1,000.

to date, The club awarded $175,000 in scholarships.
